June Planner

Just about managed to fit in this month's downloadable planner - June planner. Let me know if you have been finding these planners useful, I find I use mine mainly towards the end of the month when I reflect on all that has happened and note it down - a rather unusual way but it helps with mapping out what to do next or avoid the following month.

In other news, I am working on a website, definitely much easier to get my mind round setting one up than I first thought, now onto making it look pretty and adding content!

Hope you're enjoying this blissful one day of sun, until next time,

Grace

Nicely Done

Things are coming together nicely, if you aren't already you can follow me on Instagram where I post more in progress photos and updates. Last week I received a lot of positive feedback on the new logo and idea so I decided to go with it, thank you to all who suggested ideas to think about and since there is a nice new logo to work with I've started work on contact cards designs. Definitely looking to get back to basics and get involved in some local fairs and markets with a couple of new friends next month. Stay tuned!

Logo Design idea no.1

Lately my printer has been jamming a lot lately, which isn't great as I began to rely on it now! Although it is very old. An office printer that is probably meant for the usual type of printing that doesn't use various different types o paper. Today I did manage to try out a new logo idea to be turned into a stamp. I tested it out by printing on parcel paper to see how well it sits as a design next to the products I have already made.
Definitely a good time to refresh the logo design. For other logo designs I have sketched out you can see them on my instagram.

May Planner

Current background on Twitter.

This is a pattern that originated as a sketch in a makeshift sketchbook that (one cold month ago in a market in Canterbury) I developed more and created some hand painted greeting cards to keep my hands warm, and keep myself busy. These greeting cards will be appearing on the Etsy shop in a greeting card form.

Overall April has been a busy month, with lots of new starts, and risks taken. I'm really glad to have collaborated on various projects with Clare Pyrke, Emily Hline, and most recently Louise Johnson who is a talented photographer and will be working on some stock photography for Handmade Drawn. If you haven't already check out this talented photographer's work!

As promised here is the May planner, so lets start planning, and figure out what May may have in store for us all. Click this link to download!

Update

Earlier in the week I tweeted that Handmade Drawn is going to be paused for a short while, this is due to a change in how it's going to be run, which will be solely as an own venture by Grace Nikobari.

But don't worry, the news of this change isn't entirely a shadow on the progress made, as it has brought about new ideas such as featuring other artists, illustrators, and makers on the blog and possibly to sell in the etsy shop.

Looking back this isn't a completely new idea as when Handmade Drawn started in 2011 it was a way of showcasing the work of myself and fellow artists that were interested in selling their work. Allowing collaboration, and exposure of the talented practitioners and their work.

While planning for the new direction of Handmade Drawn gets underway please do follow on twitter and instagram as well, as I will keep those spaces updated regularly.

All this in mind, if you yourself are a creative or know of such a talented being that wants to be featured on the blog, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me!

Creative Space

We are so excited as tomorrow we will be stocking up on our printed items! Here's a look at our creative spaces today, the drawing process and brooches.

G: I've moved! So I'm in Birmingham now, where I have landed a brilliant internship with an art gallery I love. I haven't established a space of my own yet but until I finally get settled I'll be using any clear surface in a corner of a room that hasn't been claimed yet.

We post more images of what we are working on our Instagram account, come find us and join the hectic-ness of our days!

Canterbury Market

Above leaflet was designed by Emily, we were out and about promoting our etsy on Thursday at Canterbury market where we were selling some of our cards, zines and brooches. In the quiet times Grace was painting some greeting cards, which will be added to the shop soon. Overall it was a good day, windy and cold, many new friends made and a great experience. We will be doing more events like this in the future, will keep you updated!

Location, Location, Location

It was by chance that both Grace and I decided to live by the coast, but on opposite ends of the country to one another. It was through our own personal projects that we found ourselves creating these illustrations from being inspired by our surroundings. We decided to reproduce these illustrations as prints and postcards which will be sold in our Etsy shop later this year.

E: My illustrations focuses mainly on the seafront to where I call home. I've always used watercolours in my work, but it's been a while since I last dabbled in them. So I was quite excited to go back to them after going for a walk along the seafront. I was inspired by the colours of the sea and the sky meeting, it was from taking photos of my boyfriend walking the beach that the inspiration to paint it came to me. There was something about the different shades of blue that stood out to me, and made me want to recreate it in watercolours.
I'll be selling these on our Etsy shop as prints, in A4 and A3, with a white border and possibly frame. More details will be available nearer the time.

(St Mary's Lighthouse, painted in watercolours)

(Whitley Bay Coast, painted in Watercolours)

G: These are a select few of the final images I have made for the zine 'A Walk Along the Seafront' I am collaborating with Clare Pryke. More images can be found on my blog here. I will make an individual set and sell them as postcards on our etsy.

Creative Space

Today we decided its about time we showed you lot what we call our main creative spaces. As we both work on our collective and individual projects; the walls, and any space that allows to be covered in paper gets it's fair share of  blue tack and paint! I like to think it is a good representation of your mental state and the creative process. That's why when it comes to keeping it clear and ordered, it is quite therapeutic - essentially you're organising your thoughts.

G: I've stretched my legs lately and ventured outdoors. Recently I have been working on a project with Clare Pryke that involves location drawing, in and around the Folkestone town centre. Making those earwarmers I made last month, very(!) handy; although my pitfall is that I can't stay outside drawing any longer than an hour. Cold hands are barely functional hands.

E: My creative space spreads throughout my flat, but mainly my studio is where my creativity is based. My walls are covered with artwork, photos, ideas and blank pieces of large paper. When I've been drawing on one illustration for too long, I like to take a break and vent random drawings onto those blank pieces of paper. My studio is the messiest room in the flat, probably because of the lack of furniture in there I'm not able to keep everything organised the way I want to keep it.

What state is your creative space in today?

Plans and Knits

A year ago I knitted an ear warmer for a close friend (similar to the one I made in the first picture), I loved it so much I made one for myself.

I've been so cold these past few months so while catching up on all my Netflix and YouTube addictions I've been attempting to multi-task by knitting more items than i actually need. Which is a pretty good enough reason to add them to the list of items to sell in the Esty shop!

But for now, click here* to download the February planner I made and start organising your February early, along with us.

*Edit - Above link has now been updated due to some tiny errors! Sorry for any inconveniences.
